Welcome to Spotlight on Suicide, an initiative committed to shining a steady, unwavering light on the realities of suicide and the pathways to prevention. Here, you’ll find tools, reminders, and knowledge — freely offered — for anyone grappling with suicidal thoughts or moments of despair. Our purpose is simple and steadfast: to make visible the hard-won understanding of suicide prevention, drawn from over two thousand years of human experience, modern science, and compassionate practice.

We believe that despair can be met with clarity, that isolation can be eased by connection, and that even in the darkest corners, light can find its way through.

Jamie Gamboa, Psy.D.
Psychologist (32955)

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Dr. Gamboa received her doctorate from Pepperdine University and received her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College. Before joining Framework, she trained at Kaiser Permanente and the West Los Angeles Community Counseling Clinic.

 

Dr. Gamboa believes that all humans are capable of tremendous resiliency, and seeks to help each client realize and utilize the internal strengths they already possess to face the challenges they may experience in life. Her interventions are LGBTQIA+ affirming, kink/non-monogamy affirming, sex-positive, and grounded in humanistic, existential, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based approaches. Past clients have experienced her as patient, empathetic, and creative. In addition, Dr. Gamboa specializes in facilitating group therapy, and enjoys supervising training therapists in this therapeutic modality.

 

She lives in Los Angeles and enjoys running, martial arts, poetry, and drinking huge quantities of tea. She also enjoys spending time with her pets, including three tortoiseshell cats and a Senegal parrot.

Brian Stefan, LCSW
Grief Therapist (124419)

Brian Stefan, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist specializing in grief, traumatic loss, suicide, anxiety, and crisis response. He is the founder of the California Grief Center (www.caligrief.com), an organization dedicated to supporting all survivors of grief and traumatic loss through individual therapy, group support, and workshops.

 

Brian is a proud staff member of the Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center in Los Angeles, a renowned organization offering comprehensive suicide prevention services to everyone, including crisis intervention, therapy, and community outreach, aimed at saving lives and promoting mental health awareness.

 

He serves as Adjunct Faculty at California State University Los Angeles, School of Social Work where he teaches on trauma, grief, and counseling skills. He is also a member of the Los Angeles Mayor's Office Crisis Response Team & Suicide Response Team.
